Whether you are an individual or a small business, modern times have brought the ability (and sometimes even necessity) to go fully digital. A shift towards digital businesses, hobbies, and alike, has brought greater efficiency at a lower cost. It is much easier, as well as more practical to have your data stored within online storages — known as clouds — and be able to access it from anywhere, instead of having to transfer it to portable units and carry it around with you.
Not only that, but it is much cheaper to rent cloud storage space than to buy hardware. You would have to update it, look after it, and keep it safe. Opting to use a cloud service to store your data would allow you to avoid all of those unnecessary concerns, and allow these companies to do it instead.
Of course, there are many premium cloud storages that will provide you with a top-quality service. But, that does not mean that there are no free solutions out there as well. Many of them provide you with the same options in terms of security and features, and the only difference is the size of the storage. The best course of action would be to try out one of these services and see how it goes. Perhaps the limited size of storage might end up being enough, and if not — you could always upgrade to a premium one, and get more space for your data.
If you are interested — here are the best free options for you to choose from.
1. Google Drive

tekcompareGoogle Drive is likely the best-known and most popular option you will find. However, using Google Drive comes with more than simply storing a file on the web and syncing it with all of your computers and other devices. It stands out due to a great 15GB space that you will get completely for free. Apart from that, Google Drive is filled with features that most other providers simply do not offer.
With it, you can save, view, and share all types of files, many of which can be edited, or created within the storage itself. And, best of all — you can even store your personal things in it, and not have to worry about someone else accessing it. Instead, if you wish to share something with someone, you can provide them with a link to that file or folder alone, while the rest of your data will be perfectly safe.
-
Easy to manage
-
Completely free
-
15GB of space
-
Easy to share files
-
Excellent security
-
It can be difficult to integrate with other forms of communication
2. Mega
Download hereNext, we have Mega cloud storage, which is a great free option that will provide you with a massive 50GB-large space that you get completely for free. Of course, much like Google Drive, Mega is also available on mobile, which allows you to access your storage at any point, and any place.
You can use Mega for uploading or downloading multiple files, with the downloaded files being in zip form. However, such huge free storage is perfect for any new or small business, as well as for individuals who are looking for a way to store large quantities of data.
It is a great option to do file backups, and you can be sure that your files will always be safe, thanks to Mega’s great security features.

3. OneDrive
Download hereThen, we have OneDrive, which is very popular among Windows users who need a safe place to keep their files and documents. With OneDrive, your data will always remain within reach, but perfectly safe at the same time. You can sign up with Microsoft, and keep all of your data in a single place.
Its storage size is smaller than that of our previous entries, and while it used to provide 15GB (just like Google Drive), it currently only allows 10GB. Those who started using it early still get to keep their extra 5GB, but new users will have to find a way to make the smaller storage work. But, even so, it is very useful and practical, and you can still access it from pretty much any device.
Also, if you are a Windows user, you likely already have it, as it comes pre-installed. It only has one disadvantage that we have managed to find so far, and that includes minor difficulties when it comes to saving attachments from emails, as there are multiple steps involved. However, OneDrive has been working on that as well, and it is now much easier for businesses to save their attachments directly in folders.

4. DropBox
Download hereIn the fourth spot, we have DropBox, which is one of the most powerful (but still free) cloud storage solutions, and it offers excellent backup features. As usual, it is available on pretty much all devices, and it can store anything, from documents to large videos.
DropBox offers an easy sync feature that will allow you to access all of your files on the go, even from a mobile device. Its free storage is also full of other features, such as excellent security, which can be extremely important in case a device with access to the storage gets lost. If something like this happens, you can easily wipe it clean with a remote wipe feature, and ensure that your private data (or confidential business data) remains safe.
The only real downside to DropBox free storage is that it offers only 2GB. In order to get more, you have to purchase one of its many different plans. The large variety of offered plans is a good thing, however, and additional space is not too expensive, which is also a big plus.

5. Sync.com
Download hereFinally, we have Sync.com, which is another excellent free cloud storage. Like Dropbox, Sync.com also provides a rather small amount of free space — only around 5GB. However, it is extremely user-friendly and simple to use, and you can back up your files with ease. Not only that but restoring deleted files is perhaps one of its best and most useful features. It happens all too often that we lose important documents by deleting them accidentally, and if it happens to you — sync.com has got you covered.
Of course, just like with any other cloud storage, you can upgrade your space. However, the difference is that all you need to do is introduce a friend to sync.com, and you can get additional storage when they create their own account.
Another useful feature is Sync Vault, which allows you to save documents and files in a special storage space (the Vault), which is different from regular Sync folders. All you need to do is select the file you wish to save and hit ‘copy to Vault,’ and your data will be additionally secured.
-
Great interface
-
Very user-friendly
-
Good security measures
-
Premium version lacks monthly plans
-
The number of tools is limited, as there are no 3rd-party tools
Summary
Cloud computing is the best way of managing and handling your data without having to go for costly options, such as purchasing hardware and managing it yourself. Choose one of these free options to get you started, whether you are a business or an individual in need of storage. Each of them can be upgraded further if need be, but you can at least test them out and experience the benefits of using cloud storages for your data.
